What’s the best way to share video with a single-use link?

Main Post:

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the best place to ask, but a client of mine is having me work on a video for online distribution to customers. He wants to make it so that when someone is sent a video, they can watch it once and can’t download, copy or share the video with others. I was going to suggest Vimeo with password protection on the link but he doesn’t want people to be able to share the password.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What is your preferred video sharing platform?

Main Post:

Hey Reddit, so I've been doing freelance videography for a few years now but one problem I keep running into is sharing the videos with my clients so they can download them. I usually use Google Drive, but sometimes it really doesnt work well for my clients (especially when they are trying to download to their phones for IG) I recently used dropbox, which has worked in the past but two recent videos just show up SUPER blurry and terrible. A lot of my videos end up going to Insta, so mobile download is definitely key.

Just wanted to see what yall prefer and you usually get them to the client.

Thanks!

Top Comment:

Vimeo is the best for business. You can add passwords for each client and have the video downloadable, and it’s way more professional for you than YouTube.

I use Dropbox primarily but for longer videos I’ll post and share through Vimeo.

Any way to get the direct link to Reddit-hosted videos?

Main Post:

When I share a video with someone, I prefer sending the direct link so they don't have to load up a bunch of website UI just to view the thing I sent. According to this comment, it's possible to get the direct link to the video file hosted on v.redd.it. Is there an option in RES to surface that direct link on the post?

Top Comment: No option in RES, but by following the instructions provided at that link (look at the .json, search for the fallback_url) it's not challenging to get the link that way. Would probably be easy to add to a future version of RES. For example, check out these happy dogs: https://v.redd.it/z08avb339n801/DASH_1_2_M

LPT request: how to send long videos to someone?

Main Post:

Honestly I can’t believe that in 2023 it is so hard to send someone a video. I tried to send a 2 minute long video and it’s impossible. Twitter: too long. Facebook: no. Gmail: too long. Whatsapp: too heavy. iMessages: too heavy. Unbelievable.

what are the best places to share my videos

Main Post:

I make videos on History and mythology but youtube still has trouble understanding who to market my videos too and majority views I get are from posting in Facebook and Reddit groups, but even there I have trouble finding correct communities to share my videos and often my posts don't get excepted. Are there other sites or apps beyond Reddit and Facebook groups you share your videos on?

does anyone have suggestions where and how to share videos on niche topics like history and mythology?

Top Comment: Be careful when you share your videos to external sources as it could mess up with the youtube algorithm if you share it to the wrong audience. You don't want a bunch of people to click and leave after 5 seconds. I tried sharing my videos on reddit and mostly discord in the past, but it was strictly related to my gamedev niche. Nowadays I don't share my videos anymore as I've seen it's not really worth it. It's best to concentrate on making better videos and let the youtube algorithm do its thing.

Best Options for Sharing Video Content (with sound)?

Main Post:

I’ve tried a few times now to share (what I believe is very cool) video content and bumped into “NO YOUTUBE LINKS ALLOWED” more than once.

Outside of direct upload to Reddit- which seems to vary in availability by subreddit- is there a place that is more kosher to sharing on Reddit at large? I’m not interested in monetizing my content, so many of the this inspired rules can be rather frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any specific advice.

P.S. Still battling the new user/low karma thing too, but that’s another fish.

Feature request: Some way to easily get the direct video link when sharing Reddit videos.

Main Post:

When trying to share a Reddit post that is a video, if you get the link, it links the actual Reddit page.

I would like to have that option separated into two choices: “Reddit page link” and “Direct video link”

It might also make sense to have a equivalent thing set up for images, but iirc they can be linked to directly so this is not actually an issue.

Anyways, the problem: Sharing Reddit videos on discord or through text makes it so the recipient needs to open Reddit before seeing the video, when all I want is to share the video.

It is possible to manually look through the page json and find the video’s link, but that is a PITA on mobile.

Thanks!

I would post images and stuff for better context, but I have not prepared and am on my phone.

Top Comment: Yeah I never share the Reddit link. This feature would be awesome. If you share a Reddit link, someone especially not familiar with Reddit has to deal with pop ups and other weird Reddit layout stuff. Then click the video. This would be one of the best features for sure.
